Fauna


The majestic Royal Bengal Tiger is the pride of the country’s fauna. Next comes the elephant found in the forests of Chittagong Hill Tracts. Six species of deer are seen in the hill tracts and Sundarbans of which spotted deer, barking deer and Samber are the most familiar. Among the bovines buffalo, ox and Gayal (Bison) are found. Common reptiles are the sea turtle, river tortoise, mud turtle, crocodile, gecko, python, rat, snake, krait, and cobra. Hundreds of species of birds are found in the country and many fresh sweet water fishes are also available.
